The historic 2nd Christian Church building, erected in 1902, was designed by famed Bloomington architect Arthur Pillsbury. Now serving the Joy Full Gospel Community Church congregation, this beautiful structure is lovingly maintained as the architectural treasure that it is, the finish of it's oak trim still gleaming; the light streaming through the original and undamaged stained glass windows throughout the structure.
This page tells the story of the preservation of the orignial structure and architecture. It also tells the story of a broken heating system and leaking roof that threaten the future of this historic building dedicated to God's service. While many church buildings of similar age and significance have lost their historic nature and appearance, being changed with modern additions or stripped of features like their stained glass windows or oak trim, this building is worth saving as an original and significant structure to the history of Bloomington.
